In NinjaTrader 8, what does “Linking” mean?

Linking charts allow you to link individual windows in NinjaTrader 8 to certain other NinjaTrader windows. This enables you to alter one chart and all of the others at the very same time, conserving you a lot of time while charting. Users of our XABCD Pattern Suites for NinjaTrader 8 will be capable to see all of the patterns across all time frames with just one click.

Why would you want to use linking?

There are several explanations for this. Basically, you may switch many charts, etc. to a certain instrument or interval in a single operation.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. Assume you trade the E-mini S&P 500 (ES), but you also enjoy looking at the Euro (6E). Assume you have three charts for the E-mini S&P 500: a 1-Minute chart, a 5-Minute chart, and a 2-Range chart. You can utilize the same instrument link color for all three charts if you’re happy with the three chart time frames (intervals) but wish to alter the instrument (aka market). When you change one of the charts to the 6E or another instrument, all of the others “follow along” and change to the new tool as well.

Where is the link feature?

A glance at the chart window’s top-right corner. Two little grey squares will appear. The right-hand square is for instrument connecting. The left-hand square is for interval connecting.

It’s worth noting that some NinjaTrader windows, such as the SuperDOM, only allow you to link instruments. That’s because the aim of a SuperDOM is to make orders and handle trades for the specified instrument, not to “worry” about the interval.

Possible Use Cases to Link Charts in nt8

1. You want all of the other charts to update at the same time when you modify one. For example, suppose you have seven charts, each with a distinct time range. Instead of adjusting each chart one by one, we may link them all together and modify the symbol on only one chart rather than all seven.

2. You can also connect intervals, so you can adjust the interval on one chart and have it affect all the others. This is important if you have a number of charts that are all the same and if you update one, they all change.

3. Interval and instrument connection are used in conjunction. It’s very useful for organizing charts over many monitors.

4. Use it in conjunction with your market analyzer so that when your scanner detects a certain market situation and you choose that instrument in the market analyzer, all of your connecting charts connect and bring up that instrument.

Linking Charts Using The Squares

For connecting charts, there will be one or two red and orange squares at the top of each window.

What are the meanings of the red/orange squares?

Instrument connecting is done on the right (red). Interval linking is done on the left (orange).

Color Coding Your Links

While linking charts, you may change the colors such that each connection is placed together as a series of charts.

Only selected charts on your display will alter this way. You may have the four major currencies up, USDJPY, GBPUSD, EURUSD, and USDCHF, as well as a color code. 3 USDJPY 5min, USDJPY 15min, and USDJPY 30min charts, whereby if the symbol is changed to an AUDUSD, just the USDJPY pairings will alter.

Before you use connecting, consider your objectives and how they relate to the notion of linking:

Determine what you want to be consistent across numerous charts: the instruments, the intervals, or even both.

The following are the specifications and setup for this workspace:

  • 25601440 is the resolution of the monitor (1440p, 16:9 ratio, WQHD)
  • (2) 5-Minute Charts (Atlas Line, ATO 2, ATR, and Bar Timer) at the top
  • (4) 1-Minute Charts (Trade Scalper, ATR, and Bar Timer) at the bottom-left
  • (2) On the bottom-right, there is SuperDOMs (set to the instruments anticipated to trade).
  • 9 rows, 6 columns (see https://daytradetowin.com/setup-info#) Divvy settings organize
  • Geographic Line, Market Scalper, ATO 2, and Pathways are the metrics used (part of the eight-week Mentorship Program)

Ensure to just save your workspace with chart templates after you’ve set things up the way you really want!

Now is the time to be inventive!

There is no correct or incorrect method to link charts in nt8; it all relies on how many charts you would like to display on your display and how often you will be altering them. Some individuals want to have a certain number of windows up there, and they type in each symbol they wish to see, and their workspace changes to that symbol. Have a good time and be inventive.
