Do you like cooking? The beauty of cooking is that it doesn’t have to be difficult. Anyone can learn how to cook, as long as they are willing to learn some simple tricks and tips. While new ones can be found with ease, there are some that have existed for years and can be passed down for generations. Ido Fishman shares some of the best cooking tips that you can share with your family and pass them down to others. You can take a look at them below:

  • Table of Contents

    • Listen to the food talking
    • Test your pasta
    • Follow the recipe the first time
    • Don’t hesitate in going off the recipe
    • Put the lid on when you want the pot to boil
    • Don’t overcrowd your pans
    • Don’t treat pepper as salt
    • Don’t hesitate in adding more spices
    • Add mustard to
    • Use chocolate chunks instead of chips
    • Remember you cannot take away

    Listen to the food talking

This sounds funny because food cannot talk, but this simply refers to the sound foods make while they are being cooked. Different foods make different sounds when they are being cooked and you can learn a lot about them from these sounds, so you need to pay attention.

  • Test your pasta

In order to check if your pasta is ready, there are several things you can do. Ido Fishman suggests that you throw a noodle against the wall and you will know the pasta is ready if it sticks. You can also bite into a noodle and a white dot in the middle will tell you it is ready.

  • Follow the recipe the first time

When you are making something for the first time, Ido Fishman Chef recommends that you follow the recipe. Leave making amendments to the second time, when you have already tried it out and can make adjustments according to your taste. This is how family recipes are made!

  • Don’t hesitate in going off the recipe

After you have developed decent culinary skills and a good sense of taste, you don’t have to stick to the recipes 100%. Cooking is all about experimenting and being creative, which means you only have to follow the recipes loosely. Changing the recipe can help you make some very delicious meals in the long run.

  • Put the lid on when you want the pot to boil

This sounds simple enough, but there are hundreds of people out there who don’t do it. If you want the pot to boil, Ido Fishman says that you just put the lid on it.

  • Don’t overcrowd your pans

The temperature drops quickly when the frying pan is crowded and it will not provide you a good sear on meats. Rather than roasted beauties, you will be left with soggy vegetables because of an overcrowded pan. Ido Fishman recommends that you cook in batches or in two pans if you have more food than the pan is able to handle.

  • Don’t treat pepper as salt

Pepper is a spice and it should be treated just like other spices and herbs when you are cooking. You shouldn’t treat it the same way as salt, as it is not a neutral flavor enhancer.

  • Don’t hesitate in adding more spices

If you think the recipe you are following is turning out bland, you shouldn’t hesitate in adding more spices. Ido Fishman suggests that you taste and add more spice because it can add depth and flavor.

  • Add mustard to

a white sauce for more flavor

When you are cooking with butter and flour, it is a good idea to add a full teaspoon of whole-grain mustard to add more flavor.

  • Use chocolate chunks instead of chips

Planning on making cookies? Ido Fishman suggests that you go with chocolate chunks rather than chocolate chips. The former tend to melt and spread better into the cookie as opposed to the latter.

  • Remember you cannot take away

It is not a good idea to taste the food after you have done everything. It is best to take things slow and Ido Fishman recommends that you taste along the way. This is because you can always add things, but it is not possible to take them away. It is better to be safe than sorry!
